Every Moment Matters

During this past week in ISM, I have been intensely researching items pertaining to my final product, updating my mentor log, adding contacts to the contact list, enhancing my product log, and attending mentor visits. An extreme assistance towards my overall understanding of pediatrics is writing mentor visit assessments. These assessments are a simple way of compiling information and produce an easy way for me to further delve deeper into certain aspects of pediatrics.

Concerning my final product, I have decided to create something that revolves around the idea of raising mental illness awareness amongst kids and providing an elementary approach to promote acceptance and comfortability throughout irregularities in kids. As I have continuously discussed a varying amount of topics throughout my assessments, I realized that mental illnesses, specifically pertaining to children, are quite uncommon. Alongside that, there is not much “kid-friendly” awareness, in the sense that children can properly comprehend differences in their peers. This exists as an enormous silent crisis which can carry on throughout a child as he/she grows up. In order to establish equality and kindness in all respects of future generations, a decent foundation and upbringing must be initially ingrained in every child. The intent of this product is to convey the idea that illnesses such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and more should not spawn any disparities between these children and children without mental illnesses. In fact, I hold a personal connection to this product conception as hereditary anxiety runs in the women of my family, so this project would not only impact the public but would also influence me.

All in all, I am hoping that this final product will enhance my learning about pediatrics and the emotional aspect of what a doctor may deal with, especially since mental illnesses are not very common amongst children. Furthermore, mentor visits and mentor visit assessments will continue to teach me crucial information relating to pediatrics.
