Throughout this past week in ISM, I interviewed Ms. Melissa Duce and discussed final product obstacles with my mentor. Additionally, I updated my digital portfolio and logs, emailed more dietitians and medical professionals, and continued to work on my final product.
My current obstacle is scheduling interviews with pediatric dietitians. I understand that all dietitians are extremely busy, but when one specializes in a certain field, his/her time is consumed by work and other responsibilities, so scheduling interviews with students is considered his/her last priority. However, Dr. Dickschat has been instrumental in providing me with certain hospitals to contact and medical offices which possess pediatric nutritionists.
This past week, I was able to meet with Ms. Duce who is a part of the Frisco ISD Nutrition Department and reviews school lunch and afterschool program (AlphaBEST) menus. Her job consists of making sure that every campus is following USDA mandated guidelines, as well as whatever the federal and state school nutrition laws are.
In conclusion, I am quite pleased with the progress I have been making on my final product. I am hoping to being writing my actual proposal soon after I receive more input from experienced professionals within the field of pediatric nutrition.
