Keep Moving Forward

As my ISM journey comes to close, I have been looking back at previous accomplishments and how the livability of this program has affected my growth as a student and as a person. What once was sloppily noting down mentor visit notes turned into neatly organized folders and binders, full of constant revisions and updates. Learning how to choose exciting and uncharted topics related to pediatrics for research assessments morphed into pure joy at the thought of my next mentor visit. Throughout the year, my interests changed, adapted, and grew, but they ultimately stayed the same.

If I would have to provide the aspect of the program which I believed to be most beneficial for me, it would have to be the mentorship portion. Of course, the numerous research and interview assessments definitely assisted and molded my path at the start of this course, but my mentorship experience with Dr. Diana Dickschat was like attaching the final piece of the puzzle. Everything came together and as a result, my early passion for pediatrics was once again confirmed throughout this incredible mentorship. From learning about various rashes and bug bites to observing the process of vaccinations, Dr. Dickschat not only taught me a significant amount about pediatrics, she was a professional who truly cared for what she did and proved that doing something one may love is always rewarding.

Furthermore, Dr. Dickschat possesses a deep bond with all of her patients and their parents. A fair amount of them have her personal number and can text or call her if a problem arises. Thus, the patient-parent-doctor relationship has upheld its status as the most crucial factor in being a successful pediatrician and running a successful practice. At the end of the day, Dr. Dickschat surely receives a great deal of satisfaction knowing that she has performed her job well and has helped children with their problems, while developing that essential relationship.

In conclusion, Dr. Dickschat has taught me an abundance of information, alongside the medical portion, pertaining to people skills and getting along with patients. This amazing mentorship experience has once again proven to me that I still exhibit a great passion for pediatrics.
