Nothing Great Ever Came That Easy

Throughout this past week in ISM, I have gathered contacts, written my first research assessment for this year, and began creating a rough draft for my resume. Gathering contacts was actually quite easier than last year, considering that I could eliminate the pediatricians that I had already contacted.

However, getting back into the routine of writing assessments was not as easy. Because this is the second year of the program, there is much more structure and resources available to assist us, rather than utilizing Google or random websites for our different research topics. It was a bit trickier navigating certain databases in order to find articles pertaining to the information I needed for my specific subject within that assessment, so I will definitely have to get more familiar with scholarly resources.

I would like research to play a larger part in my pediatric discussion rather than just focusing on mentor visits. In fact, combining both of those portions will most likely further my learning of pediatrics and incline me to open my mind to unexplored or lesser explored topics within the medical field. Looking ahead at items such as the original work and final product, I know that creativity alongside originality will be defining those two projects and rather than choosing subjects that are common and well-researched, I want to attempt to delve into the subjects that are not written about as much.

In conclusion, assessments will require my full time and energy and I will make sure that I am giving these writings more of my attention rather than the easier assignments. No field or topic is truly complete without its fair share of research and in order to receive the highest benefits from the ISM program, I must work hard and diligently to achieve my goals in more than one way.
