Action is the Foundational Key to All Success

Throughout this past week in ISM, I have been working diligently in order to ensure that I receive the greatest benefit from my assessments. These assessments can become mundane, routine tasks if they are not managed properly and could potentially stop benefiting oneself.

One way I have attempted to conquer this fear of the routine is through finding interesting topics within pediatrics. Of course, some of my assessments do cover the more basic information regarding pediatrics, but, I find that research assessments are best utilized when I delve into something that is not as prominent in the medical realm. For example, this past week my assessment was over the contrasting types of child abuse and the solutions pediatricians have found in order to deal with those abuses.

Alongside my assessments, I have started creating a list of the top pediatricians I would like to have an interview with. This year, I would like to interview a variety of pediatricians, not just general practitioners. Interviewing specialists provides an increasing amount of insight because it may draw me to a specific side of pediatrics, rather than the general practicing that I have always desired to go into. However, those interviews may also encourage me to stay on the path that I am treading to becoming a general pediatrician.

In conclusion, I have realized that certain items in this class can easily become routine if not carefully handled. ISM is a class designed purely for the students benefits and I intend to take as much advantage of that fact as I can before I graduate and dive into the more difficult parts of pursuing pediatrics.
