Old Ways Won't Open New Doors

The title of this weekly report resonates with me for a variety of reasons. Whether it be “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” or falling back into bad habits, taking risks and getting out of one’s comfort zone is essential to success. Being in the ISM II program, I am going to have to step outside of numerous boundaries and accept opportunities that I would have never thought I could accept.

The first step begins with interviews. This year, I am going to adjust the types of contacts I call, the types of questions I create, and the location of my interviewees, among other items. Last year, I was mainly focused on just obtaining interviews. However, this year I hope to branch out more to contrasting forms of pediatricians. I would like to interview pediatricians who have been working their whole life and pediatricians who have just started working, pediatricians who work in lower-income areas and pediatricians who work in upper-income areas, ones who work in a private practice and ones who work in a hospital, whatever the type, I hope to interview a diverse amount of pediatricians in order to broaden my perspectives and explore possible opportunities that I could possess down the line.

Another item that relates back to change is my resume. I completely scrapped my resume that I created the last year because even though my topic of study is the same, I realized that I should probably revamp and revise my resume, especially since my old layout seemed to look quite outdated. Additionally, I wanted to finally apply corrections that people had given me over the years about what I should and shouldn’t keep. This signified a fresh start with new learning experiences and opportunities to better myself throughout my second year of ISM.

In conclusion, I realized that sometimes change is better and in fact, it is usually necessary for success and thriving to occur.
