In the Middle of Every Difficulty Lies Opportunity

Throughout this past week in ISM, I have continued researching for my original work, updating my portfolios and logs, and conducting mentor visits.

Pertaining to my original work, I have actually revised my original work proposal because my mentor gave me an incredible idea; she said that instead of spewing facts at an audience through a pamphlet or a lecture, I could create realistic awareness by writing product reviews of popular children's sleeping products. She further explained this idea by saying that whenever she was on Facebook, she would see advertisements of said products pop up with a high rating. In reality, however, they are not “SIDS-proof” items and may, in fact, be harmful towards children. Thus, I decided to incorporate facts about SIDS as background information and am focusing more on the applicable side for the analytical portions of my original work.

Concerning mentor visits, I am continuously gaining more knowledge from each visit as they persist. In fact, I have noticed that there has recently been quite a bit of free time that I have had with my mentor whenever I arrive for a visit, so we are able to discuss my original work and any other questions I may have. For future visits, I am planning on making questions to ask her to expand my knowledge within pediatrics.

In conclusion, I will utilize all of this acquisition of information as I maintain my pursuit of pediatrics and as I gain more knowledge through my academics and real-world experiences.
